Maybe she prefered being with another girl. Maybe she felt uncomfortable with you? or maybe she thought you liked her?
You say things got awkward between you both-that kind of answers your question really.

Accept it and stop complaining. Probably she felt that you expected more than just car-sharing from her, and she wasn't comfortable with that. Get yourself another partner.
