For newspaper readers in England,?

how are your newspapers doing? Here in the US, newspapers are in steep decline. Many have gone out of business, and the remaining ones are losing subscribers. From what I read, England has many more newspapers than we have in the US. If so, are they thriving? Thanks for your thoughts.

probably not as well as before the internet became popular, but they are doing alright still. a few publications have had to close down. but not the major ones. the times solved the problem by making anyone who accesses their website to read articles have to pay a subscription fee. although that only worked because their audience is the sort of middle class people who have enough money to pay and don't want to bother finding anywhere else to read them.

the main newspapers here are the times, the daily mail, the sun, the guardian, and probably the star and the independent. they mostly all target different audiences which probably helps (for example, the sun has a lot of lighter stories and is famed for having page three girls, so maybe working class people who aren't that bothered about minor political changes, whereas the times is very middle class and basically never has minor celebrity stories because their audiences aren't interested in that sort of culture, as a rule).

I think newspapers in the UK are doing well actually. Readership figures have apparently gone down but not enough to shut down any national newspaper. I think in the UK buying a daily paper is a habit or tradition for a lot of people. In 2010 The Independent even brought out a new "quality concise" newspaper called i. It's targeted at younger readers and those who don't have time to sit down and read a quality newspaper. As far as I'm aware it's really popular and doing quite well.
