Why is it easier to develop drugs to destroy viruses than it is to develop drugs to kill bacteria?

    It's not, it is actually easier to develop drugs against bacteria than viruses.

    Sure, antibiotics can kill the normal flora in the individual taking them; but this can be remedied with probiotics.

    Viruses have very specific and quickly mutating molecular markers that are used as targets for vaccines. The difficult part is solving the molecular structure of key viral proteins and synthesizing a compound that will bind and inactivate the protein.
