As described in the Bible, when God said, "Let there be light", who exactly was he speaking to?

When I am alone and go to the kitchen to make myself dinner I do not say, "Let there be mac and cheese" before throwing the Stauffers into the microwave.

    He was commanding his creation.

You may have not said "Let there be macaroni & cheese", but you looked at the package and thought it.

For one YOU ARE NOT GOD!!! your example is a poor example.

God spoke and it was so - He spoke it into existence. Only God - can take nothing and make something out of it.

    @truthbearer - there was darkness:

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. KJV Bible Truth

Edit @truthbearer - God did not make a dark universe - it already was dark - He said Let there be Light - this is referring to the natural light - Not Jesus. The light God created is natural and Jesus the Light of the world is spiritual - Isaiah 53 has nothing to do with this. Your understanding in wrong and God did not give it to you

God does now not say that, period. The word of God is noticeable as being embodied in Jesus Christ. Many of the folks quoting 2 Timothy three:sixteen appear not to realize that it refers to the Hebrew scriptures of the ancient testomony, for the brand new testament as we comprehend it was now not even gathered together underneath one duvet except the late 4th century. I would alternatively say that the Bible used to be skilled by way of Christian people as carrying God's residing phrase to us. But as you rightly factor out, Paul attracts a strong distinction between the phrases of Jesus and his possess words.

There has never been a DARK universe. Where do people get these foolish ideas? Certainly not in Scripture.

God was speaking to his son, Jesus Christ. Read the word; let the Word be your interpreter and you will get it right, every time.

John 1, there was a man, sent from God, whose name was John. (the baptist). He was not that LIGHT, but was sent to bear witness of that LIGHT.

That LIGHT was the truth; the teachings which Jesus taught us. the WORD OF GOD.

Jesus is not the word. He taught us the Word. That word is the LIGHT. It means, the TRUTH; LIFE GIVING TRUTH; VERSUS DARKNESS, WHICH IS ...ERROR or the false teachings of MAN.

saying Jesus was an angel, is a good example of this DARKNESS.

Saying Jesus is an incarnate god, is the biggest of this darkness of lies. this is the basis of all other lies or darkness.

Jesus is God's only begotten Son, meaning spiritually begotten, is the only true foundation of LIGHT OR LIFE.

edit@evangil... you are speaking of natural day and night. I am not. someone said a DARK universe, meaning not any natural light. Not so. Read Isa 53, 50 times. This is what Genesis one is about...the natural life of Jesus Christ, his earthly body, was this...without form and void.. read Isa 52 first... it takes revelation from God to get the truth of God's word. Natural understanding is NOT RIGHT. God never made a dark universe...with no light in it. such foolishness. doesn't the word call Jesus the LIGHT? SURE IT DOES. It is speaking spiritual;; very few folks see spiritual things.

edit@evangil...Nope, it is you who has it wrong. You see carnal. The carnal mind is death; enemy to God. Go back to Gen 1. How many days did God bring forth LIGHT ON? none of them means the natural sun. God is light, so how could his world ever have been dark, as you think? Jesus said, men love DARKNESS rather than LIGHT, because their deeds are evil...THIS IS NOT SPEAKING OF NIGHTTIME DARKNESS. The Deep means the river of TRUTH. They had it wrong, so dark...as you have it and will never even seek to know if a thing is true or not. God is not revealing his word to you. HE GAVE ME THE TRUTH.

God is different to humans. He does not need to speak with a voice. That passage from the Bible could represent only His intentions (rather than words that you can hear)

The classical explanation is that God was literally "speaking things into existence" - that it was his words that carried the supernatural power to create the things spoken.

SO: he was not speaking to someone but - rather - was commanding things to come into existence, the command itself (the Word of God) being the thing that created.

When God said "Let there be light" he was creating light itself. Before he did that the whole universe was dark and God wanted light so he made it. He made light to make the earth and the creatures and man, for he knew that light would be good for all his creatures.

  • good point, i think He spoke to the emptyness, like when you speak out loud, even though nobody is there.so when He spoke, there was light, just shows how awesome He is. And btw, funny mac and cheese joke. :)

God has an infinite number of Sons and these universes are their class room/Laboratory; they are not allowed to play inside(Heaven). God never intended this world to be our home: Eternal life with God is what He desires for us, but He does require our maximum effort while we are here. We are part of a bigger picture.

He may have been talking, or thinking to Himself. Perhaps He was lonely with only angels around. And that is why He created man.
