What's too long to leave a new cat home alone?

I'm adopting a 2 year old cat from a friend, and I'm concerned about the timing. We're normally ALWAYS home, so she wouldn't be alone for long, but the next few weekends we do have plans to be out of the house for about 8-10 hours one day each weekend. Otherwise, she'd have someone around all the time except for an hour or two a few days a week. Should I ask my friend to hold on to her until after this, or will that be alright, considering it's a new home and everything? Any advice would be so helpful!

I have owned several cats previously, so I'm used to all the "new routines", but leaving a brand new cat home alone for that long concerns me a bit, that's all.

THANK YOU!

Honestly, a new cat will probably be happier being left alone for a little while. I make sure my cats get fed morning and night...so about 12 hours apart. If you keep the new kitty in a room by herself, she'll probably be pretty happy being left alone for 8-10 hours. Just make sure she has a litter box and some food and water. She probably won't eat much the first day, anyways. I think she'll be alright :)

It will be just fine to leave your cat at home for 8-10 hours. Cats are very self sufficient and it will be good for her to have some time to herself to explore her new house. Most cats when you bring them to a new environment will hide out for the first few days. She might feel safer to come out and explore when there is nobody there to scare her. But do make sure she has a litter box, food and water that she can access.
