University: Would you recommend it?

Hi, thanks for taking a look at my question.

I'm going to be doing my second year of A Levels next year, and am exploring options after school. As well as looking on websites and things, I thought it possibly a good idea to get opinions from people who have (not) been through Uni.

Why do you/don't you recommend going to Uni?

Thanks for your advice.

    Why I do recommend Uni:

    1. Whether you like it or not, you have to go if you're going into a job with high demand or that needs a degree, e.g. lawyer, doctor, teacher.

    2. It lets you develop skills that you'll need when you become independent? Don't know how to wash your laundry? Uni forces you to learn that! Don't know how to sort out important documents? Uni forces you to learn that! (This applies only if you choose to live away from home.)

    3. Uni provides easy access to different opportunities that look good on your CV - working/studying abroad, clubs, volunteer work, etc.

    Why I don't recommend it:

    1. The career you have in mind won't require a degree, only work experience.

    2. There's a lot of work ahead to get you that degree, and it may just be too stressful.

I didn't mention costs because: 1) You don't pay it upfront; when you earn £21, 000+ it'll then disappear from your bank account (along with taxes) before you ever noticed it was there. Hey - can't miss what you never had! and 2) It depends on where you go in the UK. I'm studying at Glasgow next year and it's £3, 000 cheaper in Scotland than England. If you're Scottish, education is free ofc!

Don't let costs pull you away from uni. Mainly think about this question: does the job I want require a degree?
