flying from Canada and BEING Canadian I've NEVER been asked to provide proof of healthcare. Of course it is known that we do have our provincial health care, BUT we like to get extra just in case. I have out of country coverage with my benefits and we purchase extra from our bank.

The law isn't that new it has been on the books for several years

It is a requirement to have health insurance for entry to Cuba. However, since that rule went into effect, I have been to Cuba 9 times, and never once was asked for proof of insurance. Your policy number is fine.

The health card has been an issue of debate. It, in fact, is not sufficient. Canada will not cover the cost of medical care needed in Cuba.

Relax I've made 18 trips to Cuba 5 of them since Cuba insisted that tourists have health insurance and never been asked for any proof. in any case if you're Canadian your provincial health card is all you need.Chances are 99.99% you won't be asked.

edit that isn't a new law it went into effect about 3 years ago. I called the Cuban consulate in Toronto just to be sure back then and they assured me my my provincial health card was quite sufficient. Again, relax you're worrying about nothing.

edit. With all due respect to another poster. Your provincial health insurance will cover you in Cuba and other countries you visit up to what they would pay in Canada. you are still best to have supplementary coverage no matter where you travel
