Cuba is poor mostly because of the US sanctions on it. You can't make a country poor and then claim they did it to themselves.

Say what you want but Cuba has lower infant mortality rates than the US. Cuba also has lower rates of diabetes and other common and many chronic illnesses.
It is not perfect but it is a slower paced, less stressful lifestyle. People are friendlier and healthier in general.
