Why can't Superman be "ethnic" for a more interesting movie?

The superman movies are still being ground out of the movie factories. Personaly I can't see much incentive to ever go see them. It's bound to be the same corny old stories with the same conservative middle-america superhero.

So I was thinking, why can't superman be "ethnic". Why can't we have a movie where he is Jewish, or Muslim, or Chinese for example.

Best of all he could be Irish. He would dress in orange and green instead of blue and white. He would also fly feet first so he can land directly on his feet without having to summersault.

I might then even be tempted to go see the movie.

Cheers!

There have already been "ethnic" men who've played Superman. Brandon Routh is part native American, and Dean Cain is one quarter Japanese.

Irish? Who'd a want a freaking mick as Superman?

Though it is interesting to have a Superman who is not white, but Superman is such an icon that he is still recognized as being white.

Nick Fury is not even a cultural icon, neither is Perry White, so they can be black and no worries.

He's played by an English actor. He's was raised in Kansas and moved to Metropolis. (So, he's both rural and urban without an accent.) Plus, he's an alien. The Green Lantern has had ethnic/racial variations.

Superman is indeed Jewish - look into the history of Superman's creation.

The Incredible Hulk is green, don't forget him. And he flies feet first, as you describe.
