So, racism "now" means treating all races equally?

A North Carolina commissioner says she will not hire white males. She is an African American woman. She denies it's a clear-cut case of race discrimination. Kim Ratliff, a County Commissioner in Mecklenburg County, N.C., doesn’t regret saying that the next county manager should be a “non-white male.”

Does anyone have the slightest doubt what would have happened had it been a white male County commissioner saying the exact same thing about black women?

Update:

@ Wilson ~ What the hell is reverse racism? A word means what it means. Racism is racism. Does it matter which way the gun is pointing, if you are looking down it's barrel?

Update 2:

@ MtotheR MIGHTY RA ~ So, two wrongs make a right? Feel free to ask your own question about her opponent. That "fact" has no bearing on my question. You can't justify one person's racial discrimination in the job market, by attributing it to others.

Update 3:

@ Wilson ~ Not to split hairs here but since the question was about the new definition of racism: When minorities work against themselves first and then everyone else. I would call that racial masochism followed by universal hatred.

Update 4:

Update 5:

@ Winona ~ My beef against the term "reverse discrimination" is just this. There should be no difference in the use of an act depending on the skin color of those who are doing it. If a white man is playing baseball does it make sense to call a black man a ballbase player? I'm just examining the reality. Actually "Racism" and "reverse racism" are the exact same thing. Since Kim Ratliff doesn't believe hiring preferences toward black applicants isn't racist; she must believe treating all skin colors alike is.

Update 6:

@ Winona ~ Ack What I just said made no sense. Sorry. My beef against the term "reverse discrimination" is just this. Update 7:

@ Mike ~ Liberté, égalité, fraternité are mutually exclusive terms. The lesson learned from Orwell is lost on Obama's sheepish toadies.

When the answerer used the term "reverse racism" I got it right away. Whites are supposed to be the ones who are racists, according to "the world" and we are bad, we are prejudiced and we disregard Affirmative Action laws.

Yet, the reverse of that is going on nowadays and that is true. Whites are the ones who are being turned away from jobs, colleges and overlooked for promotions and other things due to race and it is not just white males, it is also white females.

While I am at it, appearance in other ways makes a difference as well. I know a person who is brilliant, smart and has lots to offer at a marketing firm. Yet, she is a plus size person that is not necessarily concerned with her appearance all that much. I know she needs to look the part to play the game a bit, but her brilliance is being overlooked and they are asking her to clean the bathrooms when she has a college degreed in the field and is supposedly a "salaried professional" on their payroll. This means she has to work tons of overtime under threat of losing her job, but this professional is laid on the carpet if the paper in the copy machine isn't full, the trash is not out the door and the rest room and coffee area (she doesn't even drink coffee) is not clean.

I think that if she were dressed in a business suit, with her hair up and lots of make up on, no one would dare tell her to do those menial tasks.

Sad to hear this, but not at all surprised.

Discrimination, Racism DOES exist - even in this day and age of consciencenous. It is perpetuated by particular races. If a white person says something - it is Racist or Discriminatory. If one of colour/creed (soon gonna be religion and sexual preferences) says the exact same thing, it is taboo and will very likely result in extended Legal battles!

Discrimination and Racism is a disease that is thriving. Unfortunately it is a disease that it is all too apparent - irrespective of which part of the world you or I live in - because those that feel 'hard done by' are the ones that are perpetuating the problem instead of getting off their backsides and just living life........like those of white skin are trying to do, without the BS that comes with the 'Minority Groups' and that are now 50/50% and ever expanding at a rate that the white population does not.

Interesting subject. Why is it not before the Courts? Not in your country, but will be 'googling' this one and seeing what happens..

When I applied in my local city to get a job as a firefighter (which the pay and benefits are great) I was told the same thing. You could imagine how pissed off I was after paying 35 dollars for an application fee and after going through several months of training.

Open discrimination and downright racism against whites is tolerated but as you will notice that no matter what you do as a white person you will always be a racist.

Notice all the thumbs down its because I live in a city so according to liberals I should be one of them.Never gonna happen.

Yes finally one of President Obama's campaign promises has come to light. I am from Mississippi and we deal with it everyday. See the link Guide to the Political Left for more info. Stay tuned.

Actually, that is reverse racism. But, it's okay to practice any kind of racism when you are a progressive liberal. It's like it's expected of you. On the other hand, conservatives are not expected to allow their shoes to be unlaced.

Reverse racism is where the minorities work against themselves first and then everyone else.

Why in the bloody darned heck does humanity continue to care about race?

I wish the human race would get over it.

Obviously she is a stupid woman. Who elected her?

    Nope, racism means:

hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

She did not say "she will not hire white males", that is blatant misrepresentation.

She said "that she’d prefer commissioners not choose a “white male” to be the next county manager."
