Is the Zimmerman trial an example why murder in self defense a bad idea?
This isn't about if Zimmerman killed Trayvon by self defense or not, but if he did the right decision in killing him.
IF Zimmerman is telling the truth, and claims that Trayvon was the aggressor, why did he not do something that wouldn't have ended like this? Trayvon was unarmed, right? God, if someone would be coming at me punching me, I'd put my self defense martial arts training into action.
If a guy is unarmed and attacking you, and you have a gun, killing the guy isn't gonna help, since I'll look like I'm the aggressor, right?
Whether Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin for self defense or not, I hope he is thinking in his mind "Geez, I guess I shouldn't have killed him, now I'm here bored with this stupid court case"
Sure, Trayvon was "gonna kill him", but unless the aggressor also has a gun, there's no need to kill him. If I were Zimmerman, and Trayvon was attacking me, I would have beat the little idiot up and pin him down until more police comes.
By the way, I support self defense only when there is no other non lethal choice.

If it is self defense it is not murder. Get a dictionary, look up your terms.
So lets give you an example. You are walking home alone. You are not doing a thing except talking to a friend on your cell phone and walking. Then a guy starts following you. You do not know what he wants so you try to get away from him. You succeed. But then the guy shows up again, this time close to you and in a demands to know what you are doing there. The guy is bigger (heavier) and older than you. You are scared. Now, what do you do? According to Florida law you do not have to retreat and can stand your ground when threatened. So you use what weapons you have available to defend yourself, your fists. So you start punching the guy and he pulls a gun and shoots you.
Now, who was the aggressor? There would have been no confrontation if Zimmerman had stayed in his car and not followed the kid. It is that simple.

I see where your going but it doesn't always work that way. Remember, when the shooting happened Zimmerman and Martin where approximately the same weight/ size. You say you have martial arts training? If you were to attack an armed person YOU would very much be a direct threat to their life! The fact your you don't have a gun doesn't change that. In the end Martin bashed his head repeatedly off the concrete, at that point, regardless of any other thing that happened during the altercation he had every reason to fear for his life and use lethal force to defend himself. You don't do that to somebody if you DON'T have the intention of causing grave harm.

He would have never been near Trayvon without that permit.I would not want to be Zimmerman and I bet he wishes he never applied for a concealed carry permit.

it's more an example of "don't start something that doesn't need to be started" because it may head south...
