Is Yahoo Answers doomed by our ignorance of our own ignorance?

People don't know what they don't know, but they also don't know *that* they don't know, so surely many of the answers on here will always be answered by people who don't realise their answers are incorrect, won't they? Then, when people choose or vote on best answers, they too will be ignorant, so it won't indicate that it's accurate.

Is there any way out of this?

How many roads must a man walk down, before you can call him a man?

Any challeging of previous answerers can only be done while the question is still opene. Unfortunately, the system won't allow discussions after the picking of a best answer, and even the original asker cannot change his/her "best answer" choice, not even if it was a clicking mistake.

Our only chance to enlighten others is in comments, but how many people read those?

You might write a P.M. to the asker and tell them, but of course nobody else will know. The P.M. can make a comment under the answer, adding the new details.

All this is very little,I know, but it's the only one available, for now.

So that leaves us to... common sense and Wikipedia.

  • Isn't that true of humanity as a whole?

I was recently thinking that we spend the first half of our lives learning things and the second half learning which of those things were incorrect.

Maybe the regular exposure to the ignorance of others that YA affords will encourage people to recognize their own ignorance. Or not.

That's the design of this forum. So, no, there is no way out of this.

If you want to get a correct answer to a question you look elsewhere.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
  • The thing that pisses me off most is that if you answer a question and your wrong but don't realize your wrong everyone will be an a$$ to you and make sure to tell you your wrong.
