If a person still lives in the area where they were born, they just go down to the County Clerk's office and get a copy. As I recall, you said you're from Texas. So you would need to call the Clerk for the county you were born in. There is a fee. Last time I got a copy of mine it was $2. That was few years ago, it's probably more now.

You will undoubtedly have to provide some proof that you are actually you (identity theft protection). The County Clerk will tell you what they need, what it will cost, etc. You will probably have to send copies of what they've requested, and you could probably enclose a check or money order with it.

Everyone should have a safe place for important documents. Get a fire-proof home safe or safety deposit box at your bank. Gather up birth certificate, insurance papers, deeds or titles to anything you own, and any other important papers, to go in the box. Then you will have them all in one safe place where they won't get lost or damaged. Better safe than sorry!

Contact the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the State where you were born. There might be a nominal fee.

The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages keeps all of these records and you can probably download a form from their website, fill it in and send it off ............. with a load of cash to pay for their Administration Fees.
