Shoujo manga is more of a romantic, slice of life, etc and is used to attract a female audience. While Shounen is filled with more action, less romance,sci-fi,fantasy,etc and used to attract a male audience.

Shoujo is specifically targeted for girls in their young teens (around 15 years old).
Shounen is for boys of the same age, (around 15).
Both are manga but for different ages and gender. For example:
Shoujo: Skip Beat!, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama, Kamisama Hajimemashita
Shounen: Bleach, Naruto, Attack on the Titans, Hetalia
I'm a girl and I read both but they are targeted differently.

Shoujo meaning "young girl" is manga targeted at girls. Like manga that have a lot of romance and drama.
Shounen meaning "boy" is manga that is targeted at boys. Like manga that has a lot of action, marital arts or mystery.
I hope I had helped you, have a great day :)
