  • whats the best way to overcome social anxiety?

i may be wrong but im pretty sure im suffering from 'social anxiety' because i exhibit nervousness when im around people and i mean i feel extremely nervous around people like i am overly conscious of what people around me think of me, the way i walk, talk (while talking my mouth gets dry,my face involuntarily starts making weird expressions and my voice gets shaky ), when in public places like malls and restaurants i have this strange feeling that people are watching me, so i become tense and aware of every little move i make (swaying of my hands while moving about, where i look, how fast i eat, what i do while waiting for a dish to turn up, etc)

  • is reading such books gonna help me with improving the way i speak?

Ive been thinking about this for quite sometime but is reading books with high standards of literature/advanced vocabulary really gonna help me with improving the way i frame sentences as i speak? kuz most of the time i have trouble even understanding some of the phrases that are mentioned in such books.

im asking for an answer to this because sometimes, while im in a conversation with someone i mess up and end up saying something with really bad grammar and it keeps leading to awkward moments. if you have better solutions(anything other than ones that involve talking to people) id really appreciate it if you could list some.

by the way reading books with advanced vocabulary is a spur-of-the-moment solution that i came up with so it probably sounds kinda stupid but hey, its what got me interested in books in the first place

  • Does everyone have trouble with scifi novels at first?

On a friends recommendation i recently borrowed this book named: A Player Of Games by Ian M Banks a few days ago from a local library. Its a scifi novel, and the main reason I wanted to try reading it was because i wanted to step outside my comfort zone(crime/mystery thrillers) for once but i am having a really hard time picturing scenes depicted in words and understanding some of the Scifi aspects of the book. could somebody please provide me with a solution to this problem?

Thank you in advance for replies

  • how to overcome computer addiction and keep myself motivated to draw?

until i got a laptop as a present a few years ago i used to draw and draw and keep drawing all the time but now all i do is waste my time on the damn thing playing videogames all day and when the whole day has gone by i feel like 'damn another day gone down the drain'.

drawing is one of my very few good points(not to mention worth hours of my time) and i dont wanna let go of it. for a couple of weeks ive tried forcing myself into drawing or at least reading a book to keep myself occupied but thoughts like 'okay ive been drawing for an hour let me spend a few minutes on the laptop' creep in and these "few minutes" always turn out to be a minimum of 4 hours or so.

ive even tried asking my mom to keep it somewhere hidden, locked up and out of my sight so i could focus on something else but even then the urge to use the computer takes over. its so damn overwhelming and i hate myself for giving in to temptation.(Fact: less than 15% of a day is spent on drawing or doing anything creative for that matter)

and there are few instances when i do feel motivated when im looking at artworks by professional artists or reading an inspiring book but that too lasts for a very short period of time.

ive been giving it lots of thought and my only conclusion is lack of motivation because the fact is i dont even like playing games, never have. but for some reason im addicted to them...sounds self-contradictory right? but thats just the way it is and i dont know what to do about it.

if theres anyone who knows how to deal with this id be grateful for your advice

  • why do i feel unnecessarily self concious around strangers and friends?

even when i try forcing myself into not feeling awkward while in a conversation somehow my face involuntarily makes strange expressions, my voice gets shaky, making both me and the other person feel awkward

and thats not the only problem when im at public places like a mall or restaurant i feel overly conscious of what impression im making on people watching me ...yeah WATCHING ME ...i feel that way all the time, as if all eyes are on me . i cant even WALK in the presence of other people without feeling nervous. so ive been living the life of a recluse for years only stepping outside because i have school to attend . and even there i keep to myself and honestly speaking i dont feel lonely at all, even the thought of living the rest of my life by myself doesnt bother me by the slightest but somehow or the other i have to (and i mean absolutely positively HAVE TO) get rid of this feeling of self consciousness because it makes me look like a F#@KING idiot in front of my classmates and family Does anyone have any advice I can practice to overcome my nervousness?

i wasnt like this from the start as a matter of fact i used to be vey talkative but at some point i started getting awkward around people and became excessively conscious of what people think of me

i thank you all in advance for your replies
