How can I cheer up my hurt dog?
So my wonderful dog (Bella) had some sort of skin tag that we had surgically removed. It was on her leg so we had to put one of those silly cones on her head to get her to stop licking it. I was getting a drink of water last night and noticed how sad and depressed she was so I sat down and started petting her. When I got up to leave to go to bed she pawed at me to stay! Is there any way that I can cheer her up in this bad situation? Even petting her doesn't seem to make much of a difference becuase she starts sobbing in my arms.... I know that comforting her and staying with her is the best way to solve these things is there another good way to get her happy again? <:D

You can take the cone off temporarily if Bella is going to be under your supervision. As long as you keep her from licking/nibbling on the surgery area it is ok. I would take the cone off my dog during his walks and for a few short play sessions. As long as he was distracted with a game of tug-a-war there was no problem.
If Bella wont leave the area alone and you have to keep the cone on the whole time, just try to remember it is for her own good and will only be on for a few days.
I hope this helped and good luck.

Hi there. You may be able to take Bella's cone off while under your supervision. Although, you have to make sure she doesn't irritate it (licking, biting, etc.). She may not be sad or depressed. Maybe just embarrassed of her cone. She may also just be recovering from her little surgery. Dogs are often very quiet and calm, also sometimes desperate for attention after undergoing something such as surgery. After both of my girl dogs got spayed, they both acted upset during recovery and we later figured out they were just milking it and that they weren't in pain or anything. Just give her lots of attention and tell her she's a good girl. Good luck and hope I helped.

Aww... poor girl! My dogs hate wearing that cone so much I nicknamed it "The Cone of Shame". I would take the cone off when she is being supervised. Maybe Buy her some new toys and play with her for a while. Other than that, just give her tons of attention and let her know she's a good girl.
