This trick worked on our cat way back when he was 6 months old. He developed a habit of using a corner of our bedroom. I put him in the corner, and poured cold water on his back. He hated it. I then locked him in the bathroom, where the litter box was until he used it.

For an entire week, I would take him to that corner, and pour the cold water on him. By the 3rd or 4th time, he knew what being in the corner meant. It meant cold water was coming. If we saw him near the corner, I would take a sip of water, and spit a few drops at him.

Two years later, he still won't go near that corner. He had an accident once, but he was sick.

Also, don't let anyone, especially kids, bother a cat trying to use the litter box. If the cat realizes that the litter box is not safe, then they won't use it.

One of my dads friends cats was peeing when he got home from work. He was going to put her down so we took her. Turns out he was gone all day and she wanted attention. With us, where one person was home all day, she never peed.

She might be sick and need to go to the Veterinarian for treatment.
