As a daughter I wouldn't want my dad to make a long speech but a speech would be nice.

I would hope that he would welcome his new son-in-law into his family. that he is happy for me and proud of me. And maybe one or two funny stories to lighten up the room either about me or my new partner.

Hopefully ending with a hug and an aww from everyone.

    Good Luck.

Speak from your heart. Even if it's only one sentence at least it will be true and I'm sure she will appreciate the effort from you.

The site quoted in the first answer was only registered 2 days ago. How convenient. Anyway, that site is rubbish.

Just keep it short: introduce yourself, tell one or two funny/sweet stories about her, then say how happy you she's found her husband, and propose a toast to their happiness. Keep it to 3-5 minutes.

First acknowledge the groom and his qualities. People like little stories. Then address your daughter with a story of earlier time, one about her accomplishments and then wish them well.

Try to be matter of fact and not get emotional ( until after it is over!) It will be a most monumental day for you
