.17 HMR rifle, Savage or Marlin?
I'm looking to get my first 17 caliber rifle. But i can not decide which manufacturer has an edge over the other in quality. Any input or experience will be appreciated. Ryan

I have a Savage 93 in .22 Mag. It's a great little rifle. At 50 yards, it shoots .5" groups and it will blaze soda cans at 100 yards every time if you do your part. The Accutrigger is incredible, especially when you think that I only paid $100 for the rifle used. There's a great review of my rifle on Truth about Guns. It sounds like an extremely accurate little rig.
I have no idea about the Marlin except that they have a reputation for producing extremely accurate budget rimfires.

Ultimately, either one should perform equally well.
But I would pick the Savage 93R17 just because I'm a fan of Savage. Excellent rifles at excellent prices.

If price is no object, consider a Savage 93R17 BSEV. I got one of these as part of a multi rifle deal I bought from a friend of mine and at 100 yards (there is a scope on mine..came that way) the bullets overlap all day long...flat and accurate as hell!

Kind of have to go with BigHammer. I have a CZ 453 (it has a set trigger). It is not ammo sensitive and it way out shots all my previous 17 hmrs and all my buddies current 17 hmrs. Save your pennies it is way worth the extra cost

If I might make a suggestion take a look at the new .17 WSM cartridge and the new Savage rifle made for it. http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/17-winchester-supe...
