How are prisons unable to prevent drugs from being brought in?

Well there was something in the news the other day about drugs being easier to get than soap! Why don't the prisons just make visitors talk to inmates through a grill like in the movies? Problem solved. If they moan about their hooman rights, then remind them that, a) it's prison not Butlins and b) their own well-being is being ensured by living in a drug-free community.

Some guards actually bring drugs in because it makes for more compliant prisoners.

Wardens all over the US know that the wives and mothers of prisoners bring in a very small amount

of drugs,I mean it's not like a girlfriend can just hand a "heroin cake" to her man. Nope, the very

corrupt guards are the ones bringing in the drugs, the cell phones and laptops. Some guards are actually in debt to the people they are guarding,so they pay off their debts by doing the druglords

    bidding.

Prison is in no way a "drug-free" community. Hell if the prisons really tried to stop drug trafficking the

    whole system would blow.

In UK if caught with drugs charges are sent to CPS. If a visitor brings drugs in every single case is passed to police and taken to court (no one is let off the hook) in all cases a prison sentence is given.

Drugs are thrown over the fence - hidden in babys nappies - and sadly, brought in by staff on rare occasions. The prison security teams do a great job. Dogs - and all sorts of equipment and initiatives are used.

There is a case for screened visits (called "closed visits" in UK) those prisoners caught with drugs do get placed on closed visits for a few weeks.

They are brought in by guards, or sent through the mail. Yes the mail is screened, but people who send drugs are very creative at hiding them.

Well then you go to the nearest prison and stand guard. Keep those drugs out. You'll be MBE in no time. (chuckle)

Well they either come in through corrupt guards or they're smuggled in via prisoners.
