Why do you suppose God feared man working together?

Genesis 11:1-9 explains how man came together to build a city and in that city a tower that would reach the heavens. Amidst their building God feared that if man came together like this nothing would be impossible for them, so he went down and scattered them over the earth. He confused their tongues.

Why do you suppose God feared man so? If you don't think God did this out of fear, explain why you think God did this.

When you read the history of the twentieth century, atheistic societies such as China and Russia and Hitler who rejected Jesus, you can understand that nothing was impossible: they killed over a hundred millions people. That how atrocious people was apart from God, something that we think as impossible and yet such atrocity happened.

Similarly, how many people died in building the tower of Bable? How atrocious the few became to build an empire for themselves.

However, now that Christianity is growing at unprecedented rate in China, there are more and more Christians and Boss Christians, greater peace and prosperity also ensue.

That is what God does not want to happen: the extreme atrocity of mankind that seems impossible in the eyes of the world founded on Christian values.

Considering that humans later sent men to the moon, god seems to have badly over reacted to just building a little tower.

hahaha God NEVER had fear of man. God feared for mankind because of what was in the heart when they were trying to accomplish this. They were setting themselves up to be equal to God. The same as the modern day man that says there is no God or he is his own god

Well it was a Pharaoh who wrote or dictated Genesis so he was playing god and wanted to make his masses of ignorant people afraid to learn anything so that he could control them more easily. Christianity was invented partly for that same reason; to control the Judaeans.

The first answerer was correct. God knew that man's heart was full of wickedness. The reason they wanted to build the tower of babel was so that they could worship the stars. If he had allowed hem to continue then He would have been forced to judge them, by his own righteousness.

the passage does not mention God's fear. "The Lord said, Behold the people is one, amd they have one language: anf this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do."

God was not afraid of man, or of what man might do.

As most dictators go, they have to keep the people oppressed to stay in power. The moral is probably to keep the common people common, because religion was generally used to keep the poor from overthrowing the rich.

@glutton, you realise he's an atheist?

Because God wants man to be feeble, meek, weak and a puppet.
