Comparing a city to a body, what would skyscrapers be?

not necessarily in a physical sense. Something with a more symbolic meaning.

    They could be various organs of the body.

    Think of it this way:

    Skyscrapers often contain offices run by businesses which contribute to the economy of the city. Inside of offices are people all of whom perform similar tasks (depending on which office they are in) which contribute to the success of the business.

    In the same way, bodily organs contribute to the wellbeing of a human body. Organs are made up of thousands of cells which perform the same functions (depending on which organ/which type of tissue they are) which contribute to the success of the organ.
