You can not use a vacuum you desribed to suck up water it short circuit or damage your vacuum . You need a wet dry vac such as http://m.homedepot.com/s/wet/dry%20vac/?searchtype=suggest . These ate designed for wet water pick up what you have is designed for carpet and bare floors only. Best of luck

Shop Vac type vacuum cleaners are made to suck dry or wet, the filter is modified manually for either dry or wet vacumming. All you need to know is that they work. Have owned several over the years.

You can remove the filter to vacuum up water. There should be a float ball that plugs the air passage to the motor if water gets too high in the canister, and prevent water from entering it. Good Luck

All you have to do is remove the paper filter. If it says wet/dry vacuum it will suck water all day long without failing. It sucks using the same vacuum source it cleans dirt with.
Some have a feature which lets you hook up a garden hose to drain it automatically using a pumping action. Works great. Used it to help pump out my wet basement many times and did not have to stop to empty the bucket..

No you cant suck water up using a dry vacuum
It will not only ruin it
But it also puts you at risk of getting an electric shock
Go find a mop or a cloth and wipe the water up

That is why they call it a wet vac-it can suck up water. Don't worry your sweet little head how it does not rust. Someone already figured it out.
