Had an emergency C section on 12/13. My bleeding stopped about 7-10 days after that. Basically had yellowish?

pinkish discharge on and off. The other night I started to spot dark red blood. Sorta brownish but still red. Today it looks more like my period. Not very heavy but a normal flow. I'm not soaking through pads. No gushing of blood - just like a regular feel of blood releasing onto the pad. Like I said it a dark red not bright red. I am pumping (can't breast feed he is in the NICU) but I am pumping breast milk for him.

I am going to call the doctor office tomorrow. Just wondering if I should be really concerned or if this is normal post- opt stuff? I mean I've gone basically a whole week and 1/2 if not more of not really bleeding just having a discharge. Is my uterus still shrinking?

That happened to me. My doctor said it's normal but that it could be a sign that I'm doing too much. I had gone for a small slow walk around my street the day before my bleeding started, so he said that was probably too much. He said to make sure you're sitting down as much as possible. I know it's hard with a 1 month old baby, but just be sure to take it easy.

It sounds like normal bleeding, to me. For some women, postpartum bleeding may last for up to as many as 6 weeks after giving birth. The bleeding generally stays bright red for anywhere from 4 to 10 days after giving birth. After that time, the color will become more pinkish, and eventually becomes an off-white or yellow-white color.

Your uterus should shrink to its normal size within 4 to 6 weeks after giving birth.
