Men: what does it mean when a guy asks to split a cab?

I saw my crush at the bar the other night. I started a convo with him and we ended up dancing and making out for a few hours. At the end of the night he asked me to split a cab with him. I said sure but not wanting to leave my friend behind I brought her along. When we got to his stop he gave me the money and said goodbye. No kiss. And he didnt ask for my number.

My question is would this have gone differently if I hadn't brought my friend? Was he hoping I would go home with him??

Yes....splitting a cab is a guys way of taking you home with him without ASKING you to go home with him.  Usually the cab would get to his place and he would ask "Do you want to come up"?

Asking your friend along (and NOT dropping her off first) was a clear sign from you that you didn't want to hook up.

What he means is to share a cab and go halves in the cab fare.

Yeah, he would have probably brought you over to his place and tried ot sleep with you. But because you brought the friend, he didnt.
