How do you know when you've "hit your limit?"?

Just curious, since many people ask this forum about how much it will take them to get drunk.

Do you arbitrarily limit yourself to two glasses of wine, or can you "feel" when you're getting tipsy and that means it's time to stop?

I drink one glass of whiskey, one glass of wine, or two beers. Any more than that and I'm liable to start waxing philosophic.

Whenever you get to the point that you still have enough good judgment to decide you've "hit your limit." The reason people become alcoholics is that they can't do that.

I always roll my eyes whenever I see questions like the ones you reference, as if there's a magic number of how many drinks it will take you to feel "just right." There isn't. You drink until you either force yourself to stop or pass out, whichever comes first.

Technically, alcohol is a drug, and the thing about drugs is that they make you feel good but never quite good enough, so you continue to use more of the drug until you just feel horrible. You never seem to learn your lesson, though.

Two drinks maximum is a good rule of thumb. The trouble comes when you've had two drinks and think, "I feel fine. One more couldn't hurt..." Eventually, you lose count.

It depends on the speed at which you are drinking. If I'm drinking relatively slowly I will surely go by how I feel. If I'm drinking quickly, I always give myself a break in order to allow my body to feel the full effects to gauge how I am.

If I'm driving, I am much more vigilant about how many drinks I've consumed in what amount of time and how I feel. I always just get a water and wait a little bit if I still feel 'tipsy' or slightly intoxicated.

well most people don't set the limit at tipsy you know? I mean most want to get enjoy the tipsiness and then get moderately drunk. Most of the time for me and my friends if we just want to get tipsy we'll feel it since the types of alcohol vary each time we drink could be 2 or 3 shots or maybe its a beer night and maybe we want to shotgun the beers so yeah. With hitting my limit for me as in actually getting drunk and saying oh boy that's enough for me xD yeah... after the 7th shot or so my brains telling me its not going to be a pleasant morning if I take anymore... and most mornings after I really wish I took my brains advice hahaha

I really don't get why SO many people ask those questions; it's bothersome. Are people losing their ability to simply be conscious of themselves?

Anyway. I generally just drink until I feel that I've had enough. What's "enough" varies. There have been a few occasions where I didn't stop when I should have, but I learned. To not drink long islands.

My take is the people who ask "how much ______ or how many _______ will it take to get me drunk?" or "can I get drunk on this much ___________"

. . . are all underage potential drinkers. People who can legally drink just go and do it; experiment and drink.

For me my hands and my face start getting kinda numb and I feel about 60 pounds lighter. If I go far enough to get unfocused vision, I get motion sickness and nausiated. then it's OVER!
