Of course. It shows support. You don't have to be in to any of the mumbo jumbo bits.

Weddings are to celebrate the couple, funerals are to console the living family and friends of the deceased. As such, if invited to a wedding, or if I know the deceased's family, I would attend.

I last attended a funerary Mass for our town attorney's mother some months ago. The priest after the Mass pigeon-holed my wife and me coming out of the church (this is a very small population area, everyone knows everyone else), asking why we would come to a Mass in his church.

My response was that we respected the departed woman as a valued member of the community, and that we had consolation for her family. Neither of those compassionate things require religious belief.

I go to whatever I am invited to. I don't have to believe what they do to be there and mourn with them at funerals, or enjoy their wedding day with them.

Of course. It's a sign of respect for the person.

Certainly, but only out of respect for those getting married or being buried/cremated.
