Can History Majors Work for NASA?

I'm thinking about majoring in history because it is one of my strengths and I love it. So I'm wondering if history majors can work for NASA?

NASA is more of an administrative office, the actual work is contracted out to defense contractors and they invite researchers at Universities to submit proposals and they fund the selected proposals with grants. I've known many administrators with a history major, the trick would be how to first get hired by NASA.

NASA does have a history department (or at least something like that), but it is small and there are not many openings. A friend of mine has written a number of books on space and has looked into working for the NASA but (least I head) has not been able to get a job there.

Why not do the obvious, check the NASA website for job openings and see what the educational requirements? In general, I think you will find very few openings at NASA that a history degree would qualify you for.

NASA is an equal opportunity agency and they will fit you somewhere. I assure you a history major will not be a janitor if your hired.

Your question reminds me of a true story that I heard about the youth of Dr. Werner Von Braun, famous rocket scientist/engineer who built the Saturn V rocket that put men onto the Moon. When he was in middle school, his teacher asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up. He replied, "Rocket scientist." His teacher replied, "You, Werner? You? Be a rocket scientist? I don't sink so. You are no good in Maths." From that point on, young Werner made sure he was good in Maths.

It is hard to see what skills you would show that they would want. Payroll? Janitor?
