Should the teacher who shot a pupil be reinstated?

This is Wolverhampton, not America, so the pupil he shot and his classmates are campaigning on Facebook to have this physics teacher reinstated after he was sacked for accidently injuring a pupil during an experiment on momentum, when an airgun pellet ricocheted off a desk.

Update:

Stephen - what a great experiment! Any idiot can break a brick with an H-bomb, but the real test is to see how little explosive is needed to break the brick.

It would probably need to be done outside (although most people my age have had a Chemistry lab blown up at some time during their schooldays). I'd think not a lot, but a lot less if it was contained in a sealed tube. They could try breaking bricks with other materials. Old Lithium batteries go with quite a bang, I believe. My brother's friends knew how to make nitroglycerine from glycerine, concentrated nitric and concentrated sulphuric, and once blew up the Chemistry lab. Also positioning the explosive correctly on the brick, or exploiting a weakness such as a scratch might reduce considerably the amount needed to break the brick.

There was an episode of Grand Designs, where someone used explosive to saw up a log. Much quicker and less hard work.

Update 2:

I also remember when Jeremy Clarkson had a chat show, and one spot on this was his "cookery slot" when he'd blow something up. Who can forget him once microwaving Wales.

I do think he should be reinstated. It was absurd he was sacked in the first place for what was an accident especially as the youth he hit supports him. I thank the asker for bringing that to our attention, pipe burning brightly today.

Of course he should. It was a complete accident and the school have acted ridiculously. Our schools are desperate for quality science teachers, sacking one over a silly accident is a nonsense.

  • Lol of course they should, schools would be far better if they shot a few more!

The student wasn't "shot" by the teacher.

    1. It was an Accident.

    2. The "Victim" and his friends clearly forgive him and want him reinstated.

    So, Yes. Reinstate him.

I'm quite the science buff, science was the only thing I excelled at in school but pulling out a gun c'mon. Don't need any type of weapon to prove a scientific point.
