My Male Siamese fighting fish (Betta) is flaring at his reflection?

Hi, I've never kept Siamese fighter's before so if I'm doing something completely wrong please let me know :)

He lives on his own in a cycled 24 litre tank with a heater at 26 degrees C and a filter.

There are 3 live plants, a little glass tunnel and there is a little halved coconut with a door that he likes a lot. He hides in the plants or décor some of the time but since I turned on the lights this afternoon he has occasionally been flaring at his reflection! He hasn't been trying to fight himself or anything I'm just a bit worried he might be stressed. Is there anything I can do?

The obvious thing to me from reading your question is to not enable him to see his reflection.

This may mean changing the location of the tank, or the tank itself, or changing any lighting you may have. Or you could even put those picture panels against some sides of the tank, that may be the easiest idea to try.

If he's flaring up at his reflection that suggests he sees his reflection as another fish. If he flares up he'll see his reflection flaring up & that may stress him. It may all depend on if he thinks he can beat that other fish!

That's GOOD! He's healthy and feisty and wants to fight that "other male" he sees'.

Enjoy your Betta and stop worrying.
