Is insulin supposed to be high after eating?
A few weeks ago i had a blood test done immediately after eating, and my serum insulin levels were exceedingly high. I don't know why my doctor did this test, and i don't know why he did it after eating. Then i went for a second opinion and the other doctor said it should have been fasting. So i had a fasting glucose test, the one to find out if you are diabetic or not, and all the results were normal including serum insulin. My question is, is it normal for insulin to be high after eating? Or should i be having another test to find out if i am diabetic or not? I'm in my early 20s and i'm not overweight and don't have a history of diabetes in my family either. But recently i've been getting this weird foot pain and i heard its a sign of diabetes! I am so scared!

Have your foot pain examined by a podiatrist. Medical doctors will almost always look for medical reasons to explain foot pain when it is possible that you have an actual problem with the tendons or muscles in your foot causing the pain. Then if the podiatrist finds nothing wrong, go back to the regular doctor and continue checking into issue such as gout or other medical causes.
I highly doubt that it is due to diabetes because for diabetes to be the cause of foot pain, you would need to be a diabetic for a few years before the foot issues become a problem. My husband has been type 2 for about 12 to 14 years and it was only six months ago that the doctor gave him medication for issues with his feet. A diabetic gets nerve damage from the ups and downs of their sugar levels. It takes a while for this nerve damage to start causing pain. Therefore, your foot issue is most likely not related to diabetes.

Insulin levels rise after a glucose load such as a meal. If they are truly abnormally high, it might indicate insulin resistance, which can eventually develop into type 2 diabetes, so it's worth monitoring occasionally. Fasting levels are better for diabetes diagnosis, but the way the body reacts to a glucose load can indicate diabetes as well, or can show anomalies in glucose metabolism that increase the risk of developing diabetes later.
