Cat Urinary tract infection?

My cat was just neutered on Monday, March 3,2014. His recovery has been great. Until today, Friday March 7.

I just scooped the litter box and he went in right after I cleaned it, I went to scoop the other litter box (we have 2) and when I walked back over to scoop the box that he was using, he was still in the squating position. He sat in that position for at least 2 minutes and then jumped out of the litter box crying and in obvious pain. And his little privates seemed to be contracting.

I looked up that it could be a possible urine blockage, which is very serious. So I took him to the vet. She said it wasn't a urine blockage because his bladder was small. Somehow she was able to get some urine for a sample and ran a test on the sample. She said the test showed that he has a urinary tract infection. So she gave him a shot of antibiotics and sent us home with some pain medicine.

After being home for a couple hours, he tried to use the bathroom again and squatted there for 5 minutes (no exaggeration). He didn't pee or poop. I am worried that he is going to become blocked up if he doesn't pee..

Also, his privates area is very bruised on both sides of where his testicles were. Is this normal after a neuter? I've never noticed that on my other cats, yet I've never had the need to check. I'm really worried about my little guy, and advice would be greatly appreciated!

A UTI and a blockage are two different things. Antibiotics are required for an infection, they'll run you $18 or so. Since she treated him for it, that should be resolved.

What you describe, though, is very much like a blockage. Keep an eye on him, if there's no pee, a drop of pee, or a drop of blood, it's a blockage. Take him to a different vet clinic for that. If he can't pass pee in the next 12 hours, get him in and checked. It's a blockage.

a UTI will shut off urination completely at some point... here's your solution:

My cat had a bad UTI...and eventual blockage...cost me $1,300 the first time...6 months later it started happening again - I was frantic and started thinking outside the box - and guess what...TOTALLY SOLVED THE PROBLEM

Go to the supermarket and look in their specialty juice section - buy 100% pure cranberry juice...it won't be sweetened, it wont be by ocean spray, it will be about 5 or 6$ for a gatorade sized jug, and it tastes like nasty bug juice. Get a plastic baby syringe(NOT A NEEDLE variety!!!), fill it up three times and shove that thing down your cats throat and squirt all of it in him.... He will NOT like it...scratching, clawing, biting, etc.... just pin him down. You'll feel like youre torturing him, but you MUST do this. Give him a total of about 1 shot glass or even more if you want.

My cat went from pissing kool-aid red blood-urine to complete and perfect yellow in about 38 hrs.... I now give this to him once a month or so...it's a life saver (and a $$ saver) share this advice with your friends.
