Sudden should pain during dumbbell chest press?

Today I was doing a dumbbell chest press and suddenly there was a click in my shoulder accompanied by excruciating pain. I had to stop my workout. After about half an hour the pain subsided. What did I do? Is it serious?

Could just be a 'nick', where the cartilage got snagged, and the following pain, your body flooding the area with fluids, to prevent a real-injury.

It could also be a tear(muscle, maybe a ligament), so it doesn't have to be serious, but it could be.

Basically if the pain fades, the swelling goes down, you're probably alright, if the next time you train, there's still pain, have your doctor, or a Physio at the gym take a look.
