Liberals are just as "self reliant" as conservatives, perhaps even MORE so since we value all of humanity and not just our selves.

When we were all hunched over the fire in the cave, you know perfectly well a person who struck out on their own was eaten within a week. It took the entire tribe working together. Some out hunting, some storing up food, some keeping watch, some tending the fire, some watching the young, etc.

As humanity progressed, exiling a person actually became the absolute worst punishment imaginable.

Self-reliance? Of course. But not at the expense of the lame, the sick, the poor. Because the lame, the sick, and the poor are your brothers, your sisters, your parents, your children.

Conservatism embraced the principles of the Founding Fathers thus, there principles are what modern Conservatism are, except they are tolerant of the over-steps in governmental power Progressive influences have made since the beginning of the 20th Century. Of these are equal opportunity, equal justice, Individualism, Natural (Individual) Rights, Charity, Free Market Capitalism, American Exceptionalism and Constitutionally Limited Government.

You misunderstand some of these principles. Self-reliance or Individualism means to look to ones self or community before looking to government for some sort of help or means of support. Equal opportunity (not equal outcome) and equal justice (not social justice) are principles that allow an individual to go as far as their abilities will take them and prosper from it. Another important principle is charity. Individual charity helps those who truly cannot achieve or help themselves.

A key to achieving prosperity for the most people is the free-market. It provides more affordable, flexible, abundant, efficient, accountable and attentive solutions, goods and services than ANY government counterpart. It is what has made more wealth for more people, including the poor than any other system in the world. The poor in other countries would kill to be "poor" in the US.

Natural Rights and limited government go well together. These system of right, upon which the Constitution is based, exist inherently with the individual. They do not need an outside enabler, like government, to bestow them nor make them work. All government needs to do is protect the individuals free exercise of them. Limited government (10th Amendment) means that, other than the specific powers given to it by the Constitution, all other powers are reserved for the states or individuals. It limits what the federal government can do to you.

All this results in American Exceptionalism in how Americans approach problems, their mindset in solving problems, daring to dream big dreams and finding ways of achieving them. ALL THIS has been what has moved America forward.

Lowering tax rates stimulates the economy and at the same time brings more revenue to government because of all the additional economic activity. It works every time it's tried. Everyone mentions Reagan but President Kennedy did the same thing, and it worked.

Our United States Constitution made our nation but not forward, as "forward" was a term used by communist nations. We are not communist, but a Constitutional Republic. The US Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

Conservatives understand that Liberty has value.

Real Conservatives are not interested in what you do in the privacy of your own home, but what happens on the streets of America becomes everyone's business so we are concerned about irresponsible behavior and the harm it creates.

If you screw up because you refuse to act responsibly, then it is also your responsibility to clover the liabilities of correcting that harm. - Since Corporations are Legal Entities, they too must accept Liabilities if they screw up.

In the USA the Greatest injustice is forcing the population as a whole to clean up messes they were not responsible for creating or forcing them to support those who are too irresponsible to care for themselves and their families.

What America suffers from is a lack of a functional Justice System. Since that is, according to the Constitution, 1/3 of the power of the Government, that issue is of paramount importance.

Conservatives understand that. Liberals want the liberty to do just whatever they please and stick someone else with the cost of correcting the problems they create. Then they subsequently want Big Government to dictate their actions for them rather than accept the need to act responsibly on their own. They will Never understand ethical behavior and don't trust Liberty.

Therefore they dislike the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Abe Lincoln was a Republican, not a conservative. Only since Reagan have Republican and conservative been the same thing, but Herbert Hoover was another great conservative Republican.
