Naming a child 'Bear'?

I've always loved the name Bear, what do you think of the name? Do you think a child would get bullied for the name? If I have a baby boy i'd love to call him that but not if he would be teased at school and stuff for it. I think the name is so amazing and unique :) I don't want him to have a boring, common name. What do you guys think? Please be honest thanks :)

    God no. Just no.

I'd be inclined to use it as a nickname rather than a formal first name. People get teased, or not, for all sorts of reasons, so that's not really a factor for me. My name is Gail which is a "standard" name for my generation and I got teased because it rhymes with so many other words. There are plenty of names that are not boring but aren't animals either, so I'd be inclined to choose something else.

Well if you want him to have an interesting name then it's as good as any. If you're worried about teasing then you could name him something that could have the nickname 'Bear' (I can't really think of any though). But it's becoming more popular to have unusual names these days so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Personally I think it sounds amazing too!

I think it is never a good idea to name a child after an animal. I for sure think this is a name where he would get made fun of for. I don't see it as an "amazing" name and there are so many better and appropriate names out there. :)

I actually adore it! It's on my GP list bc I would've be brave enough to use it, but it's really cool and spunky sounding. I think Kate Winslet had a baby boy names Bear last year and Alicia Silverstone has Bear Blue and (I think) Jamie Oliver has Buddy Bear Maurice. So it's pretty prominent in the celeb baby name world but so is Harper and that will be my future daughter's name. I say u should totally use it! It's soo awesome :)

I agree with Lila. She gave a very good answer. Giving your son a family name, and using Bear as a nickname is a good idea. My own son...he was named after his father, but goes by his middle name. Muhammad Haroun<---HA-ROON, which is Arabic for the Christian name Aaron. In school and on official documents, he goes by Haroun. But his nickname since he was born is Buddy. He's 11 now and everyone in the home, and relatives abroad call him Buddy. I'll never call him anything else.

I love the name but as other people have said, I would use it as a nickname from infancy. Although I do like the name bear as a first name actually. Love it, in fact.

Contact Kate Winslet. She named her baby Bear Blaze.

Of course a child would get teased (not the same as bullying) if his name was Bear. But then, ANY name can get teased.

Why not name him a family name and then just start calling him "Bear" from infancy?

This way, he can't really be teased because "Bear" isn't his legal name, it's a nickname his parents gave him when he was a baby. In other words, he'll have a legitimate excuse to fall back on, a way to feel

"normal" and fit in and you'll have the name you love so much.

There are many people, especially in New York City, who have unusual nicknames and they just introduce themselves as that nickname because they've had it for so long.

I know someone named Jason and his nickname is "Red".

His parents started calling him that as a baby after seeing "The Shawshank Redemption".

We all just call him "Red" and have ever since he was a baby.

Believe it or not, I also know a guy called "Big Bear" who has had that nickname since childhood

because he was such a big kid. Everyone just calls him "Bear" or "Big Bear".

And anyone called "Bear" is bound to be a sweetheart!

So choose wisely and good luck! :)

Well I personally think its really sweet, also speaking as a fan of Bear Grylls. Unusual names are the best! ☺️

I love it. I've met more kids with the name like fox or Lars. It sounds crazy but it's fun to do
