Hi,
Rest. Apply cold pack 20 min. every several hours and before you sleep. You can also get a gel shoulder sleeve that you can put in the freezer. It wraps your whole shoulder.
You might have one of many types of shoulder injuries. Here is a listing http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/shoulderinjurie...
Common shoulder injuries

Here is a video that explains common shoulder injuries http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9aUQNwg5Ys
You should see an orthopedist who will do physical tests and imaging tests. This will determine what condition you have.
Ultrasound can detect issues with your rotator cuffs, biceps tendons, etc. (mainly structures not blocked by bone). But if you need to see deeper into the shoulder such as the labrum, then you need MR arthrogram.
Perhaps all you will need is physical therapy. The orthopedist will say so. This is good. I believe conservative measures like this should be done.
Some doctors recommend cortisone shots to reduce inflammation. I don’t recommend this. They actually weaken your tendons, making your shoulder less stable and worse. http://orthopedics.about.com/od/paintreatment/f/si...
Another option you can do is prolotherapy. See an orthopedist who does Dextrose (or other proliferant), Platelet Rich Plasma, and Stem Cell Therapy (aka prolotherapy)–a low intrusive, nonsurgical procedure involving injections of the proliferant dextrose etc., your platelets, and your stem cells. It will regenerate and heal the injury effectively and quickly. It’s best if the doctor uses ultrasound to guide the proper placement of the injections. Be sure the doctor administers multiple injections in the whole joint, not just one injection in a single location. The treatment should be thorough and comprehensive.

Be sure you rest and not aggravate the injury while healing. Have a healthy diet. Otherwise you won't heal properly and fully.
Massage from physical therapist, or self massage will help too. Here are some videos.
