School tips?

I'm a sophomore in high school, and I will admit, I'm pretty smart, but I don't apply myself. I know I can do better than what I'm doing, I'm just really lazy and I'm wasting my academic abilities at this point. I'm taking all AP, AP Prep and honors classes, and I have a 3.1 GPA. I know that isn't horrible to most, but I know I can do so much better than that. My problem is that I am a huge procrastinator, I don't apply myself, and I do honestly slack off. I just have so many problems motivating myself. I come up with plans to study, and they work for a couple of weeks, but once a class gets hard(usually math) I just give up. It doesn't help that I have an Algebra 2 teacher that doesn't teach (I'm not just making excuses, I'm dead serious), and it's even harder for me to motivate myself when I don't understand something, because I usually pick things up pretty quickly. Any tips on how to get my head out of the gutter and actually get motivated to bring my grades up? I really try, I just fail horrendously. Could you help me come up with a study plan?

These are my classes iF it helps:

AP bio

AP world history

AP Prep English

Honors Algebra 2

Spanish 2

Next year I'm taking 4 AP classes so I really need to get it together, I'm taking AP US History, AP English lit and comprehension, AP Chemistry, and AP human geography (any tips on these classes would be greatly appreciated)

AP Human Geography is one of the easiest AP's! Just study, take good notes, and do all of your assignments. If you don't like math, you might struggle with AP Chem! The lab reports in AP Chemistry are long and tedious. AP English Lit is easy, just do your assigned readings outside of class. AP U.S. History is pretty difficult but doable. To keep yourself motivated, eat breakfast everyday! Not only is it the most important meal of the day, but NOT eating breakfast can actually lead to more weight gain in the future. Also, turn all electronics off. It's a battle between your electronics or your FUTURE. Think about it! Just turn it all off and get your homework out. Even if you don't feel like doing it, having it put in front of you will help you get it done quicker. One last thing, colleges do not like to see more than 3 AP's per year. Drop an AP junior year and join a few clubs instead as colleges are looking for a well-rounded student, not an academic robot. Good luck!

It sounds to me like part of your problem with motivation is that you're too worried about it. You acquire negative emotions, which make it hard to study. Take things a little bit at a time, and relax occasionally; come back to it refreshed. And look for the things that you really like in your classes. And perhaps you should be asking your parents to check for some outside tutoring for you in algebra.

Algebra is one of the best and most ingenious mathematics tools ever invented. If your teacher isn't doing his job, perhaps you should be talking to your principal about that. I've certainly seen algebra teachers who don't teach, or who teach badly. There was one in my high school who regularly put students in tears because he'd make fun of them for asking questions!

For an Honors Algebra 2 teacher to be that bad is intolerable. If you're not comfortable going to your principal about it yourself, ask your parents to go. Better yet, ask them to talk to the parents of other students in your class, and all go to the principal together. You might be surprised how seriously a principal will take that kind of feedback. And if the principal isn't willing or able to deal with it, perhaps they should go to the school board.
