Should I send my 4year old to school or wait another year?
My son will be 4 this august and is expected to start primary school in September, at 4years and 1 month.
He has been allocated a good school. He is very young and never been away from me he will struggle. He is likely to be very distressed. He won't eat or drink. He will cry a lot.
He is an only child, no friends, no cousins, he only really sees me his dad and his nan. He is a quiet boy, quite clingy to me. The whole big school thing would consume him , he is too young and very introverted. He won't eat or drink for 6 hours. I'm worried.
So I want to send him the following year which by law I can do.
But......the council have said if I do that he will have to go to any school where there is a place in year 1, unlikely he will get into one of the better schools.
I'm very confused, and would feel bad sending my son to school knowing he is upset and crying for me.
And I would hate to send him to crappy school miles away the following year.
And to top it off....we moved to our house to get our son into a good school....
Some good advice please
Thanks in advance

This would be a good time to start dealing with his problems. I would put him now. Nothing will change in a year. He can go twice and repeat if necessary. You seem to be a part of his problem

Get your child assessed and see what the professionals think
Remember if you delay it ,you may have to pay for the extra year at nursery school

also, is he potty trained? most schools require him to be potty trained not just going in the potty, everything, pulling up/down pants, wiping, washing, knowing when to go) . if he is, id say go for it
