People sometimes say 'we are trying for a baby'?

Why dress it up in flowery language when they mean 'we are copulating for a baby'? That sounds more accurate. More to the point, why TELL anyone? I understand that if you tell anyone your plans you might tell a friend, but WHY tell a friend? WHY this compulsion to lift the curtain on your bedroom antics - does the father-to-be know you are advertising them?! - imposing uninvited sexual imagery on the listener? What can either person gain from broadcasting this information/hearing it?

I would never tell anyone such personal information and if anyone told me 'we are trying for a baby', I would reply that I don't want to know, thank you!

I made the mistake of telling a friend we were 'thinking' of trying - we were visiting her after she just had a baby and asked when I was planning on having one.
Rather than saying what we usually do "yeah, one day" or something along those lines I said we were thinking about it.
Whenever I've seen her since that she's asked 'hows the baby making going?' - she may as well ask how many times we've had sex this month, what position, etc. It's a really awkward conversation to have. She never hid the fact that she was trying and I never asked her but she always felt the need to share. I didn't think it was any of my business so I hate that she wants to know mine.

Not my business.  We never said anything.  Not their business.
Plus it's awkward.  What do you say to that?  Congratulations?  Much success  f*uc*ing?

ETA also "We" were never pregnant.  My husband doesn't have a uterus.  I was pregnant.
