how is it young people don't know how to search?

Anyone under the age of 30 has grown up with the net from the womb. Yet In all the categories I look at on here I see questions asked that are easily searched for with Google or whatever search engine you prefer. I also see claims that nothing was found. Really?

It is incapability? Or is it just laziness depending on topic? Is all the knowledge on the latest star simply a result of popular sites such as Twitter and "news sources" such as John Stewart flooding the net? Or if pressed could the young actually find info on a topic they find interesting?

Look at the nationality of the majority of the youths asking questions instead of net searches.

They're American, and there's reasons for it:

That's downright dangerous for America's future:

I think it's just plain old laziness. In many cases, if the person had typed his exact question into a search engine he would have already had his answer, instead of waiting hours or days for someone to reply. And even then, are you willing to believe a stranger on the internet over, say, Google?

At the same time, do schools even teach how to use the internet? I know it sounds like a silly subject, but when I was in school (over a decade before the internet existed) we had to take a class in learning to use the library. This included how to use the card catalog (remember those things?)

I would like to think that this class would have been updated to now include things like how to use a search engine, how to determine valid sources of information, and other topics.

I have often wondered this myself. Part of this lies in the fact that it is easier to ask strangers online to answer a question rather than take the time to actually do the work and research. I don't know if most young people have actually learned how to research. Instant gratification is rampant in this country and people seem unwilling to take the time to find answers for themselves.

Of course if you don't know the answer or have an idea of how to go about finding the answer it is justified to ask for help. But the questions I have seen are straightforward and the asker is asking for the answer instead of help finding it. And -sometimes the asker gets very upset if it is even mentioned to do research for themselves. This is mostly being lazy in my opinion.

I don't see many questions like that, UNLESS it's something that would require them reading something kind of long, such as a Wikipedia article.

Basically: They ask questions that can be Googled to save them the time of reading. So the answer to, " Or is it just laziness depending on topic?" would be a yes.

Source(s): I used to be one of those people, as painful as it is to admit it.

A culture of instant gratification, added to laziness, and being indulged in all things, engenders the attitude of "Why should I work,I'm American.?"
