Re homing rescued feral kitten?

Hi there,

I need some advice on what to do here. I found a 4-5 month old kitten living under my house over the winter months. My intentions were to trap her, have her spayed, then see if I can socialize/tame her to see if I could find her a forever home by sending her to the shelter, though she is just not coming around at all. I had her in a training cage I keep for such rescues and took her out to cuddle, play with, etc., etc. though she wants no part of it! I let her lose in my bedroom, boarded up around the bed so she could not get under it out of reach, yet she climbs the wall looking for places to hide. She could be across the room (I have a very large 20'x16' bedroom) and if I move just an inch, whoosh! She is gone.

Today I spoke with a gentleman that wants at least 2 cats/kittens to place in his humongous pole barn to tend to the mice. I know the gentleman well and he does take good care of his cats. He feeds them and does not let them out of the pole barn for anything, though they do not get much human contact. To keep the kitten company, I even thought of placing my other cat that is totally unsocial with her for company. She also lives in my house and I have had her since she was very small. They do cling on each other as if they know both know that they just want no part of humans.

I don't know what to do. I have several rescued cats living in my home and I have to bring the numbers down. If this were you, what would you do?

Please, no smart remarks.

Thnx

Update:

Hi Aisha,

The gentleman probably will not provide toys, just shelter, food and all the mice they could dream of. Including the 2 above I have a total of 14 cats in my home that are not getting the attention they need.

I volunteer for several shelters in my area. All are no kill. Even the ferals that we trap, neuter/spay that are found to be positive with FeLV and FIV, missing legs, tails, eyes, etc. are sheltered in our special needs facilities till they are adopted out.

Some cats were never socialized and want nothing to do with humans. You can't force them to domesticate. I had a young kitten living by itself under a building at work. I started to feed it. And eventually I could sit outside and it would come and sit on my lap for short periods. Once it trusted me I was a able to catch it and take it home. He went and hid under the bed for a few days then would come out for short excursions. He eventually became a loving house cat and I had him for years. Although he only liked me and had no interest in other humans. I guess he just thought I was a big cat who provided for all his needs.

I can understand where your coming from. I too rescue local cats as well. I would nourish it back to health first and give it plenty of TLC. In the mean time, you could see how it would work out in your home. I like to think when I find a pet near me it was meant for me to care for. However if your house is not big enough, I guess it would be okay to give to the gentalmen. However does he give the cats cat trees/toys to play with? If not then the kitten might become depressed especially since its a kitten. You could try to ask a friend if they would like a kitten? Don't give to the shelters they will just end up killing it by the end of the month.
