To fellow atheists, what do you think of the spiritual nature of mankind?

does it exist or is it just a sort of inner need to find purpose. I think we all need purpose and that a person needs to feel connected to something...and believers just opt for the easy way and let a fantasy critter do all their thinking.

Spirits aren't real. Humans do what humans do because we're a collective set of unique animals. Some humans are fantastic, some are total douchebags, and a lot are somewhere in the middle.

All is energy/vibrating matter (e=mc^2). Twin Slit experiment plus the 1998 experiment by Gisen proving the multi-dimensional (non-local) nature of time, plus Shrodinger's Cat, convinces me that we are one multidimensional being.

Can you explain what you mean by "spiritual" without using and circular references or similarly vague terms. I see nothing "spiritual"!

Individual purpose is exactly that, something that drives us to make choices. That drive does not have to be "spiritual", and I would argue is never "spiritual"!

  • I think fear of failure, rejection, and the unknown prevent people from living thier lives to the fullest. This makes them unhappy. Instead of facing and overcoming their fears and improving their lives they just tell themselves there is a second life where all the things they're afraid of dont exist. That way they never actually have to face these things.

Do you make it a point to insult religious believers with every question you ask? You do not show the good nature you appear to demand from Christians.

  • Spirit in German translates to Geist... Now I like this word because it suggests something purposive and meaningful without necessarily falling back onto superstition. We are "spiritual" in the sense that we have culture, art, morality, values, emotions, and so on. Not because God gave them to us, but because we developed them ourselves.

I think people yearn to feel that they're more than they are, bigger, universal, and important. That's "spirituality" to me.
