Cost of new rotors and brake pads?

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2009 Kia Spectra (getting the title tomorrow). I took the car to a mechanic (not my favorite one, but I have a tight schedule), and he said that the car would need new rotors and brake pads on the front. What is a fair price (prices both for doing it yourself and having it done at a mechanic)? I don't want to get ripped off when I go to replace these!

That kind of thing buying an forging made product will do for you just wait for the recalls and 3 to 400.00 sounds about right. How deep are your pockets?

Did the mechanic show you the brakes or do you believe him?

#1. Obviously this car can't pass inspection. It's illegal to sell a car or truck that can't pass inspection.
