Men and emotions?
Hey there,
Long story short, I (a male) told a recently new friend (maybe 4 or 5 months, and another male) that I was suffering from depression and from that moment on he totally ignored me in every sense of the manner. He didn't reply to texts, messages, didn't return my calls and ignored me at mutual sporting events (we play football together). I'm 23 and he's 25. I thought he was a really good guy but I have no idea why he acted the way he did - I told him in mid to late March. Since then I went to his house and he said that he didn't want to be my friend, that I did nothing wrong and that there was no reason for it. Baffling behaviour in every sense.
Now I don't know if he was being a total a** or if he simply couldn't cope emotionally (which I've been told). If it's the latter, what could possibly being going on inside his head? Why would he (or anyone) pull away. Keep in mind that I told him very early on in the friendship that I had depression before in 2006 - 2009 and he reacted brilliantly to it; it didn't push him away and he was very supportive. Again, why this reaction?

maybe he had depression in the past as well, and didn't tell you. Maybe he's scared that he might catch it too (like the flu).
If you can, ask him, what his reason is in a non-offending way. Or maybe you'll meet each other at some point again, and things are more relaxed?
But don't worry too much, some people react badly if they hear someone has mental health problems. It's not your fault, you will hopefully find other friends who don't have a problem with it.
