Flea medicine with a pregnant cat?

Asking this question for my friend. Her cat is about 4 weeks pregnant, and she is wanting to know if she is still able to give the cat her flea medicine. it's a "Nitenpyram" pill, which her mom says is a generic Capstar? Would it affect her kittens, or is it safe for her to take?

Call the vet! - why does a pregnant cat have fleas in the first place/ NO excuses if you keep the cat inside and the house is flea-free.

Ask your vet whether the flea medicine is safe for your cat or not. If you have any doubts, get some Advantage II flea drops and apply these to your cat and save the oral flea medication for another time. Also flea spray your house with a good flea spray with an insect growth regulator in it to kill the fleas, eggs, and larvae in the environment. Otherwise, you will have fleas getting on the kittens. There aren't any flea medications that are safe for newborn kittens and a large number of fleas can easily kill a baby kitten.
