Why does Hollywood keep making movies about mental illness?

I saw It's Kind of a Funny Story, that movie was ****, I saw part of Perks of Being a Wallflower, I couldn't finish it. All Hollywood does is glamorize mental illness, like in IKOAFS the guy goes to a mental hospital and finds love and he's okay after that, of course he also found out that he's talented, but Emma Robert's character (not an Emma Roberts fan anyway) she was suddenly cured once she met him, I've never been in love, but I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. Also, how are these people getting gfs/bfs, is their "awkwardness" or "quirks" cute. No one thinks my awkwardness is cute, people just want to know what the **** is wrong with me. The thing that pisses me off the most about these movies though, is that they show upsides to mental illness, or "perks" you could say. I can safely say, there are rarely any perks, if there are any, I haven't come across any yet. I feel like it's becoming a fad to have some kind of mental illness so people will feel sorry for you, or at least that's what I think. I don't know, I just don't understand, if Hollywood is going to portray mental illness they could at least do it right.

Update:

@rick29148 yeah, I suppose you're right, but why do people watch that filth?

Update 2:

@hi Yeah, I know being an introvert is not the same thing as having a mental illness, in the movie he went to a mental hospital before the movie took place, idk why, all I know is his friend killed himself. I couldn't stand it any longer so I quit before I could find out.

I agree, it's human nature people are intrigued by mental illness. That's why so many people become psychologists. People on the outside want to always see mental illness as a misunderstood teenager with a traumatic past. If you want to see a really good, realistic portrayal of schizophrenia in a movie, watch Keane. It's not a great films, but Damien Lewis is outstanding.

Yes i agree. There are no Perks of being a Wallflower(Introvert). I am my self an introvert, and i can tell you my life is Hell. Not enough social courage to approach a girl and at least talk with her let alone date her. There are no Perks, and in Sri Lanka where i live people considers us Freaks. I dont know how it is in America being a introvert, but i dont think even in america there are perks being a Introvert

And finally i think Introvercy is not an illness. Illness can be cured by medicine. (All my psychiatrist can give me was some bunch of useless advice and pep talk ) I think its the way we are born.

But i see making movies like this is a good thing, specially for people in countries like sri lanka. Its better for people to know by watching the movie that there are people like that in the world. And hopefully when they encounter an Introvert they will not see us as freaks.
