RE: New overtime wage law pays time and a half for health care workers after 9 hrs.?

Does someone know reason WHY this law was MADE?, SINCE IT TARGETS mainly workers who work 12 hr.. and 24 hr. shifts, these workers are "already" get higher wages! Most workers work 8 hr. shifts and can be paid minimum wage. This law hurts patients, employees and employers. Why, why?

I don't know about your state, but in my state, Oregon, the health care workers were getting screwed big time. Low wages, poor if any benefits, long working days and no Overtime.

The voters of Oregon voted on a citizen initiated ballot to make Health Care providers working conditions fair.

The health care providers in your state may be treated better than the employers in Oregon were treating their workers. So I don't know why laws protecting them were passed in your state.

I'm not sure why you're so upset that homecare workers would be eligible for overtime pay. Or maybe you're not aware that in the past they have been eligible neither for minimum wage nor overtime in the majority of US states.

Is it hurting you in some way? Are you a patient? An employer?

The Department of Labor estimates this will cost about $6 million dollars a year. That's just about $50 a year for you. This is a problem why?

Because health care workers who have to work that long deserve it. It's very stressful to deliver top quality care for that long of a time. If hospital CEOs can "earn and deserve" millions of dollars in salary when they mostly just play golf and fondle their secretaries, surely nurses can get 3 hours of time and a half for working a 12 hour shift.
