why does is seem feminist are against pornography?
I see this bought up a lot by feminist, pornography being considered a form exploitation of women. But as far as I'm concerned it's just adult entertainment. Something enjoyed by both genders. In many cases considered fantasy. To add women in the porn industry choose who they share scenes with, control what goes on in them, and get well paid. If she chooses to stop mid scene she has every right to. The director and her partner have no say.
Could someone explain the feminist point of view on the subject? Much Obliged.
So far the only exploitation I come up with is if a women was in need of money, a man offers her cash to shot a scene, and then she reluctantly accepts. In some cases this does happen, but it's to both men and women the fail to make it in the movie industry.
I feel this best answered my question. Thanks to all for your responses.

*Some* feminists are against pornography, because it is degrading to women in general and degrading to the women who are subjected to the whims and fantasies of heterosexual men, that actually buy that crap. Those of us that are against the whole industry, have actually done our homework on the subject. We know that drugs, sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, and STDs are all a big part of the industry. We don't like that women are being hurt, all so that a few men can get their jollies.

It depends on the feminist. I'm a feminist, and I think the concept of porn is fine and dandy, but I'm a bit concerned about the treatment of women in the industry and the use of "shemale" (if these are trans women, then they should be called women).

Have you considered that the porn industry is just prostitutes with cameras, being pimped out for profit? Prostitution and pimping are illegal, plus pimping is immoral and exploitative.
Who's making all the cash, who owns the porn industry? That's right, it's us men, not the women who work in it.
If a woman wants to sell pictures/videos of herself that's fine, but that's not how the industry works.

It seems obvious to me.
They disprove of how these women depict femininity.
Which indicates that feminist are of the opinion that they have exclusive say in what constitutes how femininity is defined.
When they say "it degrades women" what they mean is that they would feel degraded, they actually don't consider how those in the industry feel.

They believe the industry has not changed since "Deep Throat" where there was force and abuse involved and in other cases STDS due to no condoms. They ignore the facts you represent in women having more control and consent when going to shoot and don't SEEM to notice laws the new one in California. @Kiki if its just "so a few men can get their jollies" how do you respond to successful women who watch pornography?

Because they think that the only women who do porn are too dumb to understand what is going on.
And that because SOME porn is degrading, ALL porn is degrading.
Even though all porn is consensual sex. Consensual sex is degrading to women.

the porn argument is know as Sex positive or sex negative
It's one of the most obvious divides how are people not aware of it

simply because men like it. anything we like they are against. then they come up with some butthurt reason why its all terrible. "oh its exploitation, its rape, its transmitting STDs" and all that other assorted lunacy
- Anonymous7 years ago
because they like to hurt and mock men
i think feminism should be investigated and outlawed.
