how much of what an average evangelical gives to his church is actually charity for the needy?

I've read in several places that the average Christian gives 10 times what an atheist gives. Does this giving by believers include building structures and spreading the word? How much does the average believer actually give to what we could all agree is actually charity?

The existence of churches in general is just a waste of time. It's not really much more beneficial than sports stadiums, or ice skating rinks. I do think that organizations like the Salvation Army are good, but really that job should be done by government.

Tithing pays for the building, the grounds, the salaries of the ministerial staff, church materials, evangelical outreach, and sometimes financial assistance to church members. On the whole, very little goes to non-religious charitable projects.

Every church has some sort of food bank and provides the volunteers for it, unless they are in the sticks.

Many churches go much more than this, having people visit the elderly and the sick.

It takes a lot of donations to pay for the escalade, fancy house and all those thousand dollar suits.

Dude, atheists don't give ANYTHING to churches. Your numbers are horribly skewed.

Well, what do you mean by "what we can all agree is charity?" There are charitable organizations, certainly, but not always is such satisfying what "charity" really means.

visiting the elderly and preaching the gospel will not count as charity soon.
