What are some of the "best" .45's for Concealed Carry?

I'm a large man at 6'6 270lbs. I only own one other handgun, and it's a 6" Ruger GP100. My hands fit perfectly on the stock hogue grips, so I guess you can see I have large hands. I've got a $1,000 budget. I've been leaning towards the Sig Sauer P220 Carry. I'd like to know some other options, and that's why I'm here. What do you think would be the ideal .45 for me to carry? Yes, I know it comes down to how it feels in my hand, and blah blah, well that's why I would like you to SUGGEST some other options. Thank you.

Sig makes an excellent handgun. While you're at it, though, check out Glocks, Springfield XDs, S&W M&Ps, and of course 1911s.

Really, if I were you, I'd just walk into an indoor shooting range and shoot whatever catches your eye. You might find that something that works for you is something that none of us would consider.

You are on the right track with the P220. Sig makes excellent handguns, and the P220 is legendary for its accuracy, reliability, and performance in general.

Specifically... if you had one of these (*drool....*), I'd be your best buddy and wash your car on the weekends... just to be nice: http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p220...

By the way, I'm not sure if your heart is absolutely dead set on a .45, but .357 Sig is generally regarded as a superior round for... everything. It's a hair more expensive for plinking, but.... that's not the purpose for a CCW.

I have the full framed version of this: http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/1911...

Second finest shooting firearm I own, behind my Dan Wesson .44 Mag.

When it comes to a .45ACP it all comes down to controlling that gun. In my 30 + years of experience shooting them, I have found about the smallest useful sized .45 is the Combat Commander sized frame. A 4" barrel. Anything smaller and the recoil is a problem. Takes too much concentration on that to shoot well n a high stress encounter. And that sir, is the short answer.

I personally carry a full sized Colt Government model. Longer barrel = easier to point. Extra size and weight = easier to control the recoil.

Ooooo, and can not forget :

" Yes, the Colt may be a little heavy, a little uncomfortable at times. I AM very comfortable with it. :-) You know I had to say it.

I would stick to the Sig sauer P220

I carry sometimes a Springfield XDS .45 it served me well you may like it

You should consider increasing your budget a bit more because your life may be on the line

Really matters not how large you are.

M&P's xD's and Glock all make 45 ACP pistols. If you like single action classics....everybody makes a 1911 now days.

BTW... I work with State Troopers who'd cast a shadow on you and shoot PPK's and other small pistols with authority

I made quick trade at a slow gun show because I just got tired of owning a certain rifle and left with a Kahr CW45. I have really enjoyed it and it was less than $500 trade value. DAO but works like a champ and I don`t desire to part with it anytime soon.

Oh man - I bought the small .45 ACP Glock - I think it's the 36.... and it jammed like crazy! Scary pistol. So watch out for that one.

I carry a P220 carry for my daily carry weapon. I love it. I have also carried a Smith a Wesson M&P for the longest time. I prefer the full metal guns now a days though.
